Responses to Terrorists Attacks on USA

Voices of Peace

"Guernica", by Pablo Picasso. This large painting was inspired by the first air bombing of civilians (by the Third Reich's Air Force during the Spanish Civil War). It became the icon of militant peace in the face of terror, loss and pain. Image courtesy PBS's Treasures of the World.

Welcome to West By Northwest.org, an independent online regional journal of arts, letters and ecology. As we face critical questions of terror, loss of innocent people, economic dislocation and our national response, a measured war, we encourage you to join the discussion. Please write. Many people have written and we are grateful. If a piece is being widely circulated we think you may already have read it, so we haven't posted everything sent. Now that the US is bombing in Afghanistan, the picture shifts from prevention to remedial influences. We suggest that the millions of voices of peace have indeed influenced the government to be more circumscribed in its actions than the early rhetoric would suggest. Let's "keep on trucking."
