Proposed Cell Tower Site Saturday October 6, from 8 to 10 a.m. 1404 Villard st. Eugene
OR
SBA/Sprint has submitted a permit application to the City of Eugene Planning Department
for a PCS (Personal Communication Systems) transmission tower located at 1404 Villard
Street. This property is owned by Williams Bakery. The height of the proposed tower
is 120 feet tall.
Verizon also has a proposed site off Franklin less than 2000 feet from the proposed
site on Villard. Because the Eugene City ordinance does not allow for these sites
to be closer than 2000 feet from one another, SBA/Sprint will have to apply for a
variance in addition to the regular permit application process.
Except for the area north of this site, neighboring properties are residential (whatever
their zoning). There is a daycare center in this neighborhood. This site will be
situated next to U of O student housing. This site is totally inappropriate. Although
potential health risks are not criteria in contesting the siting of these towers,
they are of grave concern to many of us. There are a growing number of studies indicating
caution in exposing people and animals to RF radiation. Of concern, also, is visual
impact and property devaluation of neighboring properties.
Saturday, October 6 from 8 to 10 A.M., we will be floating a 5 foot red balloon
to the height of the proposed tower, 120 feet. Please join us and see for yourselves
how intrusive 120 feet of vertical real estate will be in this neighborhood.
We will have information on this issue along with a petition. We will also encourage
you to consider joining us should members of the neighborhood decide to picket Williams
Bakery. Picketing would send a powerful economic message to those who do not consider
their neighbors or neighborhoods when choosing wealth over health, wealth over visual
impact, and their economic gain over their neighborsí economic loss.
